The BXH2002 is a Blue Ox custom-designed receiver hitch for the Buick Encore GX (no hands-free liftgate) and Chevrolet Trailblazer, covering 2020–2024. It is a Class III hitch with a 2 in receiver opening, and the crossmember is hidden.
Blue Ox rates it for weight carrying at 3,500 lb gross trailer weight and 525 lb tongue weight. There is no weight-distributing rating: Blue Ox’s instructions for this hitch say not to use it with spring bars, so the weight-carrying figures are the only limits that apply.
The hitch is steel, finished in Blue Ox’s textured black powder coat over an e-coat base, and it is made in the U.S. and may include imported hardware. Blue Ox safety tests to SAE J684 and SAE J3352. What is the difference between the weight-carrying and weight-distributing ratings?
Weight carrying is a trailer hitched straight to the ball, with the tongue load resting on the back of the tow vehicle. Weight distributing adds spring bars that spread that load across both axles of the vehicle and the trailer. Because the load is spread, the weight-distributing limit is often the higher of the two, but it only applies when a weight-distributing hitch is actually in use.
Can I use a weight-distributing hitch with it?
No. Blue Ox states DO NOT USE WITH SPRING BARS for this hitch, and publishes no weight-distributing rating for it. Tow within the weight-carrying figures instead.
Does the hitch rating mean my vehicle can tow that much?
No. The hitch rating and the vehicle rating are separate, and they are often different. Blue Ox tests the hitch to the vehicle’s tow ratings and asks you to check the figure in your owner’s manual and use whichever is less.
